    1839 WILL AND TESTAMENT.

    April 15, 1839, Will and Testament Bequesting Slaves, Maddison County, KY, Choice Very Fine.  Manuscript Document, 10.5" x 7.5", 6 pages, integral, last doublesided sheet is separate.  Lightly toned pages with minor splits, and edge wear.  William Martin, age 73, bequeathes a 100-acre plantation and several slaves to his wife and offspring:"my three negroe slaves Edmund Elize & Mavy..."  Daughter Lucy gets "my negroe girl Nincy which I rate at two hundred dollars..."  Sons David and Richard get "my negroe man Cyrus who I rate at four hundred and fifty dollars..."  Son James: "a negroe woman named Rebecca which I rate at four hundred dollars..."  Son Tyree: "a negroe girl called Tilloth, which I rate at two hundred and fifty dollars..."  Daughter Elizabeth Sims: "a negroe girl called Bitter of the value of three hundred dollars..."  Daughter Mary: "one negroe boy named Clipit of the value of four hundred dollars..."  Daughter Nancy: "one negroe girl named Tabitha of the value of four hundred dollars..."  Daughter Sarah Thomas receives land and "one negroe girl named Sarah of the value of three hundred dollars..."  And daughter Winefred Black:  "one negroe boy named Charles of the value of four hundred and fifty dollars..."  A very long, detailed will, with names of Martin's large family, and the names of particular slaves as well!
