    Description

    Edward S. Curtis, Photographer: "East Side of Walpi" Portfolio Photogravure from The North American Indian, Volume XII, Plate 417. Curtis' caption: "The house-walls are about eighteen inches thick, and consist of fragments of sandstone, shaped by fracture but undressed, and bound together with mud plaster. The upper levels of the terraced buildings are reached by ladders and by stone steps." The photo date is 1921 and this original photogravure was produced in Cambridge, Massachusetts by Suffolk Engraving Co. Plate size is approximately 17.25 " x 13.75" on a 22" x 18" Holland Van Gelder sheet. Edges rough, light tissue burn, overall very good.
