    Description

    Curley and Big Medicine: A Rare Large-Format Albumen Photograph of the Two Wearing Indian Police Badges. Curley was one of Custer's favorite scouts. Released by him just before the battle, Curley withdrew to a safe distance and watched the entire battle through binoculars, later giving one of the more credible accounts of the fight. Big Medicine was chief of the Indian police at Crow Agency. Identifications written in period ink on verso, with inscription: "Taken in 1900 by Christianson [sic] of Forsyth and given to me by him at Crow Agency." Christensen's original label on verso. Photo is in excellent condition and measures 6.5" x 9.5". Original mount is 9.75" x 12.5".
