    Description

Chief Red Cloud's Personal Catlinite Pipe Bowl and Wood Stem. A marvelous pair belonging to one of the greatest chiefs of the Plains tribes. The bowl is artfully carved in the form of an animal with small horns, most likely intended to represent a young buffalo. Excellent condition with good indications of use. This is item 96 on the old inventory of the collection and is identified as Red Cloud's on both the inventory and an old circa 1920s-30s label affixed to the stem. Bow length 4.375", stem length 18". A true museum piece.

From the Rathbun Family Collection. See also Lots 51370 through 51412 for additional material from this collection.
