Ornamental Sign for Texas Ranger June Peak's Dallas Real Estate Office. Measuring 25" x 37.75" x 1.25", this beautiful wooden sign sports scalloped edges enhanced by a silver border. The sign itself is painted black with gold lettering and reads "112 / June Peak / All Kinds / Of / Real Estate." Both sides of the sign are weathered, one more so than the other. Three metal loops at the upper edge for hanging.

Junius W. Peak (1845-1934), a native of Kentucky, moved to Dallas, Texas, with his family in 1855. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in the Indian Territory as a private in the Chickasaw Mounted Rifles, 1st Indian Brigade, serving for a year before receiving a transfer to the Second Kentucky Cavalry in October 1862. He was twice wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga while serving as a field orderly for the 3rd Tennessee Cavalry. Recovering in Atlanta, he joined the 8th Texas Cavalry as a scout and spent the remainder of the war in Texas. After the war, he began a career in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff for Dallas County and, after a brief stint in New Mexico, as Dallas City Marshal. He joined the Texas Rangers in 1878 as a lieutenant in Company "B," Frontier Battalion, and was promoted one month later to captain of the company where he was instrumental in the capture of the notorious outlaw Sam Bass. He resigned in 1880 and took a job in Mexico, returning to Texas four years later. He returned to Dallas in 1899 and began a career in real estate.
