Honourable Sir William Ponsonby Major General in the Army Plaque.

Features large crest reading: TRIA JUNCTA IN UNO. Inscription beneath reads: THE HONOURABLE SIR WILLIAM PONSONBY / MAJOR GENERAL IN THE ARMY / AND LIEUTENANT COLONEL IN THE 5TH (OR PRINCESS CHARLOTTE OF WALES / REGIMENT OF DRAGOON GUARDS / NOMINATED A KNIGHT COMMANDER OF THE / MOST HONOURABLE MILITARY ORDER OF THE BATH / 2ND JANUARY 1815. Plaque measures 7 1/4-inches by 8 3/4-inches. Mounted to wooden display, overall measuring 12-inches by 14-inches. According to research; Major General Ponsonby was a politician [1796-1798 MP] and British Army officer. Sir William Ponsonby served in the Peninsular War, commanded the 5th Dragoon Guards, which in 1811 became part of John Le Marchant's heavy cavalry brigade; and was later killed at the Battle of Waterloo while in command of the Union Brigade [which included English, Scottish and Irish regiments].
