Denver's American House and Inter-Ocean Hotels Pamphlet. Denver: Merchant Publishing Co.,1883. A four page 3.125" x 5.125" advertisement for two of Denver's most luxurious early hotels. The American House (the "Old Reliable"), pictured on the front, features 200 "First Class" rooms, suites, and apartments, "pleasantly situated" and "admirably kept" at the corner of Sixteenth and Blake Streets. The Inter-Ocean Hotel, pictured on the back, contains "75 very pleasant rooms" situated "diagonally across from the American." Inside are printed distances to other cities, and elevations of peaks, passes, parks, and lakes. Great period piece. Roughness at top, otherwise very good.

The American House was opened in 1868 by John Wesley Smith. Interestingly, the Inter-Ocean, which opened in 1873, was built by ex-slave Barney Ford, Colorado's most prominent black businessman. It was described at the time by the Rocky Mountain News as the "the finest in the territory and the best appointed hotel west of Saint Louis." Ford sold out to Smith in 1876. The American was torn down in 1933; the Inter-Ocean survived until 1973.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
