Winchester Model 1894 Takedown Lever Action Rifle with Leather Case and Factory Letter.Serial no. 15423 [base of receiver], .32-40 caliber, 16 1/2-inch round takedown barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear elevation sight. Blued finish. Case-hardened hammer. Top of barrel marked: MANUFACTURED BY THE / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. Upper tang stamped: MODEL 1894 / WINCHESTER / PAT. AUG. 21 1894. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Crescent metal buttplate. Manufactured in 1896. Contained in custom leather "takedown" carrying case with three pouches and the initials J.W.B. Sold along with factory letter dated October 15, 2009. Letter confirms type, caliber, barrel type, trigger and takedown.
The Takedown version of the Model 1894 features a quick-detach system, allowing the rifle to be separated at the receiver and barrel junction. This design made it ideal for hunters, travelers, and lawmen who needed a compact, easy-to-carry rifle.
Condition: Very good as refinished. Retaining approximately 60-70% finish with some thinning to relief edges, handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Barrel has been shortened. Scattered scuffs and dings present to wood. Action good. Lightly pitted bore. Leather showing honest handling and storage wear.
