Description

King Charles II Document Signed, "Charles R", 2 pages, 7.5" x 11.75", Whitehall, London, June 8, 1670. It reads in small part: "...Whereas Robert Garrett late of Kensington Esq. for severall considerable sumes from him due and owing to Our Right Trusty and Right Welbeloved Cousin Robert Earle of Holland as he was the said Earles Steward and otherwise intrusted, stands Outlawed in Our Court of Common Pleas refusing to be demeanable to Our Laws, Upon which Outlawry a Writ hath issued by vertue whereof certaine goods and chattells unto the said Garrett belonging are found forfeited unto Us and as yet remains in the custody of the Sheriff of Our County of Middlx that is to say, contains goods apprized at Ninety Three pounds, Two Shillings and Nine pence...". Charles II, although assuming the Scottish crown in 1649, did not become King of England until the Restoration of 1660. A remarkably sound and legible 17th century royal manuscript complete with a modern transcription of the text. A few areas of minimal archival repair, tiny splits along the edges of folds, else very good condition.
