Description

Pristine Imperial German Artillery Non-Commissioned Officer's Sword with the unit designation "Altmark. Feld-Art.-Regt. No 40" etched on a fire blue 6 1/8" panel on the obverse of the 31½" blade. Entire sword near mint, just some minor wear on the pommel and backstrap. Blade is etched for half its length, on a frosted background, with floral/ scroll work, crossed cannons and a mounted officer with plumed helmet, (in addition to the panel) on the obverse. The reverse with similar motifs and a 7½" panel of a gun in limber with outriders, etc., all with spiked helmets. Horseheads at the top. Maker's mark of W. K. & C. with knight and king's heads on the obverse ricasso. Black composition grip with triple brass wire wrap mint. There is no scabbard. Scarce form, superb condition.
