Description

The original "Earthrise" photo

Lunar Orbiter I: Vintage Large 1966 NASA Photo, the First Photo of the Entire Earth Taken from the Moon. A 20" x 16" heavyweight original photo as transmitted to Earth and received at the NASA tracking station at Robledo De Chavela near Madrid, Spain. This crescent of the Earth was photographed August 23, 1966, when the spacecraft was on its 16th orbit. This was the first American spacecraft to orbit the moon, photographing potential landing sites for the upcoming Surveyor and Apollo missions. Quite a landmark photograph and rarely seen in this size. Some edge roughness and minor crinkling, fine.
