Churchill photograph inscribed to his nurse

Winston Churchill Inscribed Photograph Signed. Measuring 8" x 10", this fantastic photograph of Sir Winston shows him emerging from a doorway in a three-piece suit, wearing a top hat and bow tie, leaning on a cane in his right hand, ubiquitous cigar in his mouth. At lower left, the former prime minister has inscribed the photo to his nurse, Muriel Thomson: "Muriel Thomson/from/Winston Churchill/1960." Thomson cared for the ailing Churchill during a 1960 cruise with his friend, Aristotle Onassis. In her private diary, Thomson described Churchill as a "difficult & ill humored."

On the verso, Nurse Thomson gives the particulars of the photograph: "Given to me by Sir Winston on Sunday 10 July 1960 the day he sailed [with] Onassis. Actual photograph was taken on Derby Day 1960 at 28 Hyde Park Gate London. I'm holding his Left Elbow & his coat - hence his coat Button is pulled up."

Condition: The photograph is bowed slightly. Two small creases at lower left corner, not affecting the inscription or signature. There is also a light toning, especially evident around the edges. Mounting remnants at edges on verso.
