Mickey Spillane. Production Archive for Something's Down There. [New York: Simon and Schuster, circa 2003]. Typescript (possibly mechanically reproduced), with some passages in multiple drafts; setting manuscript with numerous revisions; and author's proof. Also includes several notes, with typed preliminary outlines and sticky notes inserted throughout. Loose quarto sheets (8.5 x 11 inches). Typescript presumed complete in 143 leaves, concluding in chapter 17, grouped by chapter with a paperclip in the upper-left corner; setting manuscript in 363 leaves; artist's proof in 280 leaves. Printed rectos only; numerous corrections throughout. Page edges worn; some pages toned; some marginal foxing and staining; discoloration and indentations caused by paperclips. Very good overall. The last Mickey Spillane book published in his lifetime.
[Together with]: Partial Typescript of The Dead Street. [Likely Murrells Inlet: circa mid-2000s]. Typescript (possibly mechanically reproduced); xerographically facsimile of the typescript; and three ink-jet printouts of the text (one with corrections); and a couple leaves of typed notes. Loose quarto sheets (8.5 x 11 inches). Eight chapters, of an eventual eleven, on fifty-five leaves (eighty-nine leaves for the inkjet printout); grouped by chapter with a paperclip in the upper-left corner. General light wear, particularly to page edges; some light toning; occasional marginal staining; discoloration and indentations from paperclips. Very good. The first posthumously published Mickey Spillane novel, finished by Max Allan Collins. Features Mike Hammer.
[And:] Preliminary Notes for The Goliath Bone. [Likely Murrells Inlet: circa mid-2000s]. Approximately dozen leaves of preliminary notes in manuscript and typescript as well as what appear to be early typescript drafts of the opening passages and the ending (possibly mechanically reproduced); with a xerographic copy of the original edited typescript (incomplete), ending on page 62, lacking a couple pages with numerous inserts and a few duplicates. Predominately loose quarto sheets (8.5 x 11 inches), some smaller leaves laid in throughout, two leaves slightly taller. General light wear throughout; taller leaves worn along bottom edge. Near fine. Includes a first edition copy of the book. Published posthumously in 2008, finished by Max Allan Collins. Mike Hammer takes on Al Qaeda and finally marries Velda.
