Description
Robert E. Lee Signed Carte de Visite.2.5" x 4"; Lexington, Virginia; 1867. A chest up portrait of Lee in civilian clothes. Boldly signed "R E Lee' on the albumen with great contrast. Mary Custis Lee adds an inscription on the verso, "For Miss Lizzie Cole... from her friend Mrs R. E. Lee / Lexington Christmas 1867." "R. E. Lee" is written beneath Mary Custis Lee's signature in an unknown hand. With a Wm. W. Davies photostamp on the verso.
Condition: The CDV has been trimmed at all corners, affecting the albumen but not Lee's image. With toning, foxing, and some staining along the right edge of the albumen. Staining on verso.
