Rare Confederate Read & Watson Percussion Rifle.

Unserialized, .54 caliber, 32 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front and rear sights. Bronze breech. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Sling swivels. Two barrel bands. Metal ramrod, triggerguard and buttplate. According to Flayderman [10-025], estimated total quantity produced is 900, from 1862-1863. The Read & Watson Percussion Rifle is a rare and intriguing firearm from the American Civil War, notable for its craftsmanship and the circumstances of its production. Read & Watson was a smaller operation compared to other Confederate armories.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a bright grey patina with signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Scattered scuffs and scratches present to wood. Crack to left side of fore-end, at second barrel band. Also crack to base of stock, in front of triggerguard. Touched up and sanded in areas along the front end of the fore-end. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
