Description

Horace Greeley: Commemorative Pocket Watch. This nickel-plate pocket watch was produced by the Waterbury Watch Company. It measures 2" across. The back cover has a raised portrait of Greeley on a stippled ground, within a wreath, inscribed "The Horace Greeley Watch. Tribune Founded 1841." We believe this watch was produced after Greeley's death in 1872 and may have been a big seller with newspaper men wishing to honor or emulate the great editor and reformer. It has a coated paper stock dial, lacking the hands and glass cover. It is currently not working.
