Signed First Edition with a First Day Cover Signed by All Six Members of the Kon-Tiki Expedition

Publisher's orange cloth with gilt spine titles. Original pictorial dust jacket. Minimal edge wear to boards. Very light soiling to spine cloth. Gilt very bright. Very minor spotting to endpapers and edges. A small news-clipping is tipped in on the verso of the front free endpaper. Light wear to extremities. Tiny abrasion to the "The" on the spine. Light rubbing, with minor spotting to verso of dust jacket. A near fine copy.
Accompanying the book is a first day cover signed on the back by all six explorers on the expedition: Heyerdahl, Erik Hesselberg, Bengt Danielsson, Knut Haugland, Torstein Raaby, and Herman Watzinger. Interestingly, it is post-marked on the day the expedition arrived in Tahiti in 1947. The piece is actually signed twice by Heyerdahl, once in 1947 and again in 2000, when he spoke at the Smithsonian on May 11. A ticket from the Smithsonian presentation is handsomely framed with the cover, the cover matted so that both sides can viewed. Also accompanied by a paperback reading copy of the book, and a heavy brass stand for the framed display. A wonderful assortment for the Heyerdahl collector.
