Description
Model 1840 NCO Sword With Original Leather Sling Identified To 1st Lieut. Robert Mckee 119th Pa Infantry.Model 1840 Non Commissioned Officer's sword marked on the ricasso "Made by Ames Mfg Co Chicopee Mass" the reverse "U.S. C.S.L. 1864". Blade is clean and bright with a few areas of small minor dark stains. Brass hilt excellent, leather scabbard shows very little wear just minor weakness at top mount. Attached to the scabbard is the original over the shoulder NCO leather sling with circular brass eagle plate. Leather is in excellent condition showing minor surface crazing only. Included is a file concerning the history of the 119th Penna. infantry and Lieut. McKee. In the file is an unsigned letter attesting to the family history and acquisition of the sword and sling. Robert McKee enlisted on 8/22/1862 in Co C 119th Penna Infantry advancing through the ranks to 1st Lieut. 4/21/1865, serving through most of the war as an NCO. The 119th Pa was heavily engaged through-out the war and suffered 213 losses.
