San Francisco: Printed for William Andrews Clark, Jr. by John Henry Nash, 1930. John Farrow's copy, used to research his 1937 biography of Damien of Molokai, Damien the Leper.
Two volumes, housed in publisher's slipcase. Quarto, printed on handmade laid paper, and small facsimile copy of the original 1890 booklet bound to match the larger book. Printed in a limited edition of 250 numbered copies, of which this copy is number 123. [6], xxxv, 29 pages; 32 pages. Each book bound in quarter white parchment and brown paper boards with gilt tiles to spines. The larger volume has its upper edge gilt, deckled edges, a printed "Compliments" slip tipped in between front endpapers, two full paged engraved portraits of Stevenson and Father Damien in decorated and historiated borders with facsimile inscriptions of each man, and title and section headings printed in red with a black decorative floral border. Both books have light cover scuffs, color fade to boards, minor smudges or soiling to spines, small discolorations on free endpapers of larger volume at head and foot of gutters, pages internally clean. Slipcase with wear and soiling, spine damaged with minor loss along upper front edge, minor loss to open end of upper edge piece, small surface paper tears. Else two books in very good condition.
