Description

Woodrow Wilson: Great Pro-Suffrage Poster. The views of Woodrow Wilson on suffrage are still being sorted out and debated by scholars. Sending out mixed signals to suffragists, Wilson appeared to oppose suffrage when he first took office. Pressure on the part of women apparently caused a change in attitude, and he endorsed the pro-suffrage referendum when it appeared on the ballot in 1915 in his home state of New Jersey. This is the first time that this 14" x 23" poster has ever appeared in auction. Originally published by the New Jersey Woman Suffrage Association, it is in very good condition apart from some very minor spotting that is mentioned for the sake of accuracy only. A great presidential tie-in.
