Description

Civil War: Original Pen and Ink Drawing of the "South Gate Entrance, Andersonville Prison, Ga.". The drawing, used as an illustration in the Century Magazine (40:454, July 1890), was executed by Isaac Walton Taber and based on a sketch by Robert K. Sneden, circa 1864. Taber's works frequently appeared in The Century. Private Robert Knox Sneden was a mapmaker in the Union Army in Virginia until his capture in 1863. He was in Confederate prison camps for thirteen months. The unsigned drawing is on board, 13.5" x 7.625". A pencil inscription of the title and various stamps and notation around the edges and on the back. Light soiling, else very fine.
