Description
Space Shuttle STS-41-G (October 1984) through STS-106 (September 2000) Collection of 86 Unflown Silver Robbins Medals, with Accompanying Patch Design Documents. An incredible collection covering sixteen years and 86 flights of the Space Shuttle program that included numerous highlights and advancements in space exploration. Everything from missions to Spacelab, the deployment of the Hubble Space Telescope, and numerous other achievements are represented here. Medals for these STS flights were issued in smaller quantities than those of the Apollo era, making a collection of this size especially desirable. In the chronological range mentioned above, the only missing medal is STS-51-L (see adjacent lot). This group is extraordinary in that all 86 medals are still in their original cases with serial-numbered stickers and are in gorgeous mint state condition.Included with this lot is a binder with documents explaining the details behind the design of each patch, which in turn was used for the medals (64 of the 86 medals represented). These documents give great insight as to the logic used to conceive these historic symbols. The striking beauty and elegant designs on these medals cannot be overstated. Excellent.
