Description

John F. Kennedy: Framed Dagger Presented to John F. Kennedy by German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer. An 11" long silver and gold adorned dagger with scabbard, displayed in a 12" x 15" framed case, personally presented to President John F. Kennedy by Konrad Adenauer, the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. This presentation took place during Kennedy's historic 1963 trip to Germany, following his iconic "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech at the Berlin Wall.

The provenance is documented in a letter on White House stationery from Martin E. Underwood. The dagger was originally given to Kennedy, who later presented it to his close friend and aide, Ken O'Donnell. O'Donnell subsequently passed it to Underwood. According to a letter of authenticity by Underwood, undated but presumably written in the 1990s, the dagger's gold and silver content was then appraised at $1,000.

Condition: The glass covering has shifted within the frame, but the dagger and both plaques remain intact and undamaged within the presentation. Letter of Provenance is slightly toned, presents as fine.

Provenance: Martin E. Underwood, President Kennedy and President Johnson advance man. From the Fred N. Ciacelli Kennedy Collection.
