Description

Abraham Lincoln: White House Invitation to Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles. 3 7/8" x 5 1/2" hard stock White House dinner invitation to Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles, August 3, 1861. This was an important affair, as it was a State Dinner for Prince Napoleon, the nephew of the former French Emperor. It's only fitting that a high ranking cabinet member, such as Welles, would be invited. At the lower left corner is the imprint of Philip & Solomon. A great rarity.

Condition: Old catalog label affixed to verso, toning, else in fine condition.
