Description

Civil War: Framed Medals and Photograph Identified to Captain James H. Kidd, 6th Michigan Cavalry.

The two medals and photograph are framed under glass in a contemporary frame to an overall size of 16 x 14-inches. The medals flank a print of Kidd wearing one of the medals. The medals include a beautiful gilt GAR member's medal with rank insignia bar and 6th Cavalry insignia and a gilt 6th Cavalry medal inscribed to Kidd on the reverse and seen pinned to his chest in the image. Kidd enlisted on August 28, 1862 as a Captain and was commissioned into "E" Company of the Michigan 6th Cavalry. He rose to the rank of Major (1863), Colonel (1864) as recommended by General Custer, and Brigadier General by brevet (1865). He was wounded twice during the war - at Falling Waters, Maryland and Winchester, Virginia.

Condition: Not examined out of the frame. But the medals appear to be in excellent condition.
