Description
Texas War for Independence: Battlefield Relics from Gonzales, Goliad and San Jacinto. 1) Group of five musket balls (.69 cal) and two small cannon balls which, according to the caption, were found in Gonzales, Texas and are typical for artifacts recovered at pre-Civil War sites. Since no Civil War battles occurred at the site, it is logically assumed they are associated with the Battle of Gonzales that took place on October 2, 1835 in the Texas for Independence . The musket balls were not fired and may have been dropped by retreating Mexican troops. The cannon balls show evidence of having been fired. 2) Case containing three horseshoes, one cannon ball, two hat or accoutrement emblems and five spear or halberd blades. According to the caption card, these were dug at the Battle of Goliad site. 3) 13" relic dagger supposedly found in 1898 on the San Jacinto Battlefield.Auction Info
