Colt Model 1851 Navy Single Action Revolver.

Serial no. 118770 [barrel, frame, triggerguard and butt], .36 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. Left side of frame stamped: COLT'S / PATENT. Brass gripstraps. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Manufactured in 1862. Together with photocopy of Civil War Weapons Search stating this Colt Navy Revolver #118770 was a "Range Match" to multiple Civil War Illinois Regiments; 9th Illinois Vol. Cavalry / March 1863, 10th Illinois, Jan 1862 and 13th Illinois, 1864. According to their records definition, "a Range Match indicates that the weapon's serial number is within the serial number range of identical weapons issued to the CW Regiment (s) listed. Therefore, a probability exits that the piece was issued to a soldier in the regiment (s) listed". Condition: Good. Finish a smooth grey patina with noticeable areas of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Cylinder with heavy wear. Some wood loss along edges and corners. Caliber marking behind triggerguard absent. Action needs adjustment. Pitted bore.
