U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Saddle Ring Carbine.

Serial no. 31617, .45-70 caliber, 22inch barrel with fixed front sight and and adjustable folding rear sight. Blued finish. Top of action marked: MODEL / 1873 / (eagle head) / US. Lock stamped: (EAGLE) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD. Saddle ring. Smooth walnut straight stock with barrel band and sling swivel. US marked metal carbine buttplate.
Sold along with notarized typed and signed letter, dated 03/08/21. Letter states Dancey purchased the carbine from William White, veteran of the Indian Wars who served with Co. F, 2nd Cavalry. Also notes that the carbine was a re-issued carbine that was captured from a Sioux warrior after the Battle of Little Big Horn.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with honest signs of handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Action good. Bright bore.
