Description

John C. Fremont: Currier & Ives Cartoon. Republican candidate John C. Fremont and Tribune editor Horace Greeley are headed for Salt River in this 1856 cartoon titled: "Col. Fremont's Last Grand Exploring Expedition in 1856." Seward leads the Abolition Nag to its fate. Henry Ward Beecher distributes his famous Beecher Rifles while a frontiersman exclaims to Fremont: "... you'll find that dead Horse on the Prairie is better for the Constitution, than Abolition Soup or Wooly head stew in the White House." It measures 17" x 13" and has three tears that extend into the image, around a half-dozen border tears and a small area of loss on the bottom. It still displays nicely and will mat and frame well.
