Original brass, spring motor, three glazed sides, vertical paper tape reel, removable key handle, polished wood base. 16 inches high (406.4 mm); rectangular mahogany baseboard 14 x 6.5 inches (355.6 x 161.5 mm). Known by a variety of names, including ink-writer, register, receiver, and simply Morse telegraph, this communication device operates by receiving a Morse code signal and translating it into a series of dots and dashes inked onto paper by means of rotating ink and paper wheels. Later versions of this device featured alphanumeric keys for recording stock information and came to be known as stock-tickers. This item comes from the notable Early Technology Collection of Michael Bennett-Levy.
