Description

The Massachusetts Centinel (Boston, Ma.): Early Printed Version of the Bill of Rights. June 20 1789, 4 pgs., 10" x 15 1/2". The newspaper contains an inside page heading: "...AMENDMENTS (Page 2) to the New Constitution, proposed by the Hon. Mr. (James) MADISON..." with a full column of the proposed list of amendments to the US Constitution that would go on to become the Bill of Rights. On June 8, 1789, James Madison proposed a series of amendments to the newly ratified U.S. Constitution in the House of Representatives. These proposals, aimed at addressing concerns about individual liberties, became the foundation for the Bill of Rights. After debate and revision, Congress ultimately approved 12 amendments, sending them to the states for ratification. Ten of these were ratified by the states and became the Bill of Rights in 1791.

Condition: Encapsulated, reinforced at left edge, right edge roughness, light water stain. Considering the rarity of tis issue we feel these defects can be over looked.
