Description
Cased Colt Baby Dragoon Percussion Revolver.Serial no. 12742(all matching including wedge), .31 caliber, 3-inch octagonal barrel with address reading: ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY. 5-shot cylinder with stagecoach holdup scene. Silver-plated square trigger guard and backstrap. Inspector's initial T to right side of trigger guard. Punch dot to right front of triggerbow. Inspector's K below serial number on trigger guard. Left side of frame with: COLTS/PATENT. Sold together with a CDV image of a man. The reverse signed: CAPT. G. H. SMITH and also with photographer's imprint from Jefferson, Texas. Also sold with an associated case, possibly of the period although made for a revolver with a longer barrel. Purple velvet-lined hardwood with partitions for the accompanying accessories: 1) Two-cavity, .31 caliber brass bullet mold marked: MASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS with inspectors' initials J.T. and W.A.J. 2) An unmarked brass powder flask with eagle clutching a Colts' revolver; 3) A nearly full cap tin from the Union Metallic Cartridge Co. Property from the Estate of John R. Eckel, Sr.
Condition: Fine for this model. Traces of blue under barrel otherwise all steel surfaces are a very thin gray patina. Hammer and frame showing the silvering of faded case colors. All safety notches present. Trigger guard is retaining approximately 70-80% of the silver plate. Backstrap and butt with only traces of silver plate. Grips with approximately 50% varnish and have a wonderful dark age patina. Numerous small dents to butt. Accessories: Fine with age wear and patina. Case: Very good. Interior with scuffs. Exterior showing a cleaned, once painted exterior.
