Description

Apollo 16 Flown American Flag on Crew-Signed Presentation Certificate, in Framed Display. A 5.75" x 4" cloth U.S. flag that flew aboard Apollo 16 to the moon, April 16-27, 1972, with crewmembers John Young, Ken Mattingly, and Charlie Duke. It has been mounted to a 13.25" x 10.25" parchment-type certificate with the printed header: "This Flag Was Carried To The Moon By The Crew Of Apollo 16". It is signed in black felt tips: "To Byron & Millie/ Ken Mattingly", " John Young", and " Charlie Duke". Beneath is a Beta flight insignia attached and a printed image of the Orion Lunar Plaque. The writing is dark and unfaded and the flag is bright with barely visible glue bleedthrough. A beautiful example of a rarely offered type of presentation from this mission; only the second crew-signed flag from Apollo 16 that Heritage has offered. Matted in white linen inside gold filets and framed to an overall 20" x 17". Excellent. From the collection of Lee Nunn.
