Description
Richard Wagner Autograph Letter Signed. One page of a bifolium, 5 ¼ x 8 ½ inches, Bayreuth; July 15, 1876. Letter in German addressed to Herr Vollz. It reads, "Again I am missing the matter from Cologne, particularly that of March of this year about which I asked you last time and about which you wrote me then that it had reached you (in April) only after delivering the first quarterly accounts. Didn't they produce anything by me in Cologne in April, etc.? I hope to be immediately informed about this. A seat for all three performances will definitely be reserved for you as my business associate and you will find the tickets for them ready for you upon arrival." Signed, "Richard Wagner."The German composer and conductor is perhaps best remembered for his philosophy of "Gesamtkunstwerk" or "total artwork" in which Wagner blended music, drama, and poetry together. Wagner likely refers to the impending opening of Bayreuth's new opera house as the Wagners were major patrons of the new building. After more than five years of construction, the Festspielhaus opened on August 13 with Wagner's Das Rheingold.
Condition: Creased along flattened folds and lightly toned. Very small stain to the date.
Provenance: Kenneth W. Rendell Gallery
