FIRST EDITION, just preceding the American edition. Gatherings sewn in the conventional manner with thread (BAL state A), ads at end dated "October, 1884," and partially uncut. Publisher's original pictorial red cloth, stamped in black and gilt.

Condition: Spine sunned, head and tail pushed and a bit frayed, boards a little scuffed and corners just bumped, other minor edgewear. Ink ownership and blindstamp to front free endpaper recto, purple pencil ownership to half-title. Textblock somewhat toned, scattered thumbsoiling throughout, some gatherings over-opened.
