Description

Large Early 20th Century U.S. 48-Star Flag.

Wool with sewn wool stripes and muslin stars. Approximately 55 x 90-inches. Two brass grommets at each end of the hoist. Marked by hand in ink on the hoist bunting: "18?? / 45 [star] UTAH LAFAYETTE / 1896". The original owner was confused and failed to properly count the stars. Perhaps he or she was referencing the fact that Utah was admitted to the Union in 1896.

Condition: Dirty from storage with some toning, scattered staining and a few small holes. Good condition.
