The photograph, taken the day after President Kennedy's assassination, pictures (from left to right): George Christian, press secretary for Texas Governor John Connally ; Preston Smith, Lt. Governor of Texas; Lyndon Baines Johnson; Waggoner Carr, Attorney General of Texas; and Byron Tunnell, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. The newly sworn-in Johnson had summoned the Texas officials to Washington to help plan Kennedy's funeral. George Christian would remain in Washington as LBJ's press secretary.

Inscribed "To Byron Tunnell, With best wishes from his friend Lyndon B. Johnson." Tunnell served as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives from 1963 to 1964 and was present at the breakfast held for President John F. Kennedy on the morning of his assassination in Fort Worth. Tunnell confided to his family that he was never as afraid during the war as he was in the church the day of President Kennedy's funeral because he knew that one bomb could have taken out the leaders of every free country in the world. Glue/mounting traces on verso. Boldly signed and inscribed. This photograph comes directly from the Tunnell family.
