Description
Abraham Lincoln Autograph Letter. One page, 5" x 8", Executive Mansion letterhead, Washington D.C., May 28th, 1863. The letter is written by Lincoln as an approval to a senator's request, it reads, "To.day [sic] Senator McDougal asks that 1st Lieut. Lawrence Kip, now on Gen. Wool's Staff, may be a Brigadier General - The Senator makes this a personal request - almost - and I wish to oblige him." Lawrence Kip was never awarded this rank, however, he did survive the war and continue to serve in the Army. Accompanying this letter are two photographs of the Lincoln memorial, both in color, and a lovely photogravure of Lincoln. All these items will make lovely display piece for this letter.The letter is in fine condition; usual folds are present; staining present along fold lines on verso; letter has been silked at some point in the past; slight mounting traces on verso. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
