[John Quincy Adams]: Original, Classic Anti-Jackson Coffin Handbill. 13" x 19 1/4" and framed to an overall size of 19 1/2" x 25 1/4". Printed on rag paper, titled: "Some Account of some of the Bloody Deeds of General Jackson". Eighteen coffins are depicted, representing the soldiers that were unjustly executed on order of their commander, Andrew Jackson, during the War of 1812. A small cartoon shows Jackson using a sword-cane to dispatch someone who was reaching down for a stone to defend himself during an argument. Issued as part of a smear campaign against Jackson in the 1828 campaign, partly to counter the charges of "Corrupt Bargain" between John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay. There is some light wear and some very minor loss at the center, which is typical with these broadsides. This example is nicer than most that appear on the market. Selections from the Collection of Tom Charles Huston.
