Space Shuttle Missions STS-1 through STS-135: The Alan Bean Collection, Set of 134 Silver Robbins Medallions, All Professionally Graded and Encapsulated by NGC, with Handwritten Provenance from Bean. An incredible essentially complete set of 134 official Robbins Company silver medallions, representing all but one Space Shuttle mission from STS-1 (April 12, 1981) through STS-135 (July 8, 2011). Each medallion has been professionally authenticated, graded, and encapsulated by NGC, making this the largest graded and slabbed Shuttle Robbins set ever presented for public sale. Even more extraordinary, 132 of the 134 medals originate directly from the personal collection of Apollo 12 astronaut Alan L. Bean, the fourth man to walk on the Moon and one of NASA's most respected figures. The remaining two acquired include STS-1 from the collection of Shannon Lucid, and STS-88. Bean's unique connection bridges the heroic Apollo era to the Space Shuttle generation, imbuing this set with historical continuity and significance. Each medallion, struck in sterling silver by the Robbins Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts, features detailed mission insignia, crew names, and flight dates. Together, they chart the entire arc of the Shuttle program, from
Columbia's maiden launch to
Atlantis's final landing thirty years later, capturing NASA's evolution from early orbital operations to the dawn of the International Space Station era. Included are memorable and tragic moments including STS-1, STS-7, STS-51L, and STS-107. All medallions are graded and encapsulated in mint state, preserving their pristine luster and sharply detailed relief. 130 of the 134 are graded MS 66 or higher, including 112 examples at MS 67 and above. STS-130 is the only medal absent. All medallions are unflown. Included is a handwritten letter of provenance by Bean, as well as a COA from Dr. Lucid. An unmatched collection, mint state.
