The original launch date planned for Gemini 6 was October 25, 1965. The primary goal of this mission was to rendezvous and dock with an Agena target vehicle. However, the Agena target vehicle failed to reach orbit due to an explosion during its launch on October 25, 1965. Consequently, the Gemini 6 mission was cancelled. The mission was then re-planned and renamed Gemini 6A. This new mission was designed to rendezvous with Gemini 7, which was already in orbit. Gemini 6A launched successfully on December 15, 1965.
