Gemini 5 Crew-Signed Launch Cover. A philatelic cover with a rare KSC stamped cachet bearing a 4ยข "Long May It Wave" stamp machine canceled at Kennedy Space Center on August 21, 1965. The crew's names have been typed where each has signed in black felt tip: "
Gordon Cooper" and "
Charles Conrad Jr". Unaddressed. Very light glue bleedthrough, overall fine. Included, for purposes of display or matting, is a glossy color print of the crew posed in white spacesuits on the recovery ship.
Gemini 5, launched on August 21, 1965, was a pivotal mission in NASA's spaceflight program, demonstrating that astronauts could endure the duration of a trip to the Moon and back. Piloted by Gordon Cooper and Charles "Pete" Conrad, the mission lasted over eight days, more than doubling the previous U.S. spaceflight record. It tested new fuel cell technology for extended electrical power and refined orbital maneuvering techniques essential for future rendezvous and docking operations. Gemini 5 proved that long-duration spaceflight was possible, laying critical groundwork for the Apollo missions that would follow. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
