Braniff International Airways Boeing 727-200 1:100 Scale Desk Model, Alexander Calder "Flying Colors of the United States" Bicentennial Livery. A rare and visually striking airline presentation desk model representing the celebrated Alexander Calder-designed Boeing 727-200 created for Braniff International Airways in 1976 to commemorate the United States Bicentennial. Finished in Calder's distinctive abstract composition of flowing red, white, and blue forms, the aircraft became one of the most iconic examples of fine art applied to commercial aviation. Produced by Pacific Miniatures, the acrylic model measures an overall 18.5" x 13" x 6" and faithfully captures the dramatic, sinuous livery, often nicknamed the "Flying Colors of the United States" or "Sneaky Snake", and notably includes Calder's painted signature on the forward fuselage. Such models were produced in limited numbers for airline executives, corporate partners, and special presentations, and examples representing Calder's aircraft are among the rarest and most desirable of all Braniff desk models. Age related wear and toning, overall very fine. Braniff International: The Models and Memorabilia of Braniff Airways “Where Travel Became Art"
