Alexander Hamilton Letter Signed. One page, 7 7/8 x 9 7/8 inches, "
Treasury Department," [Philadelphia]; December 14, 1792. In this letter to Sharp Delany, Hamilton instructs him to purchase sail cloth from a merchant in Boston and describes how Delany should record the expense. Laminated with a heat setting acetate at an earlier time (
circa 1930s) to an overall size of 8 1/4 x 12 3/4 inches.
The letter reads, in full: "
The Revenue Cutter of Georgia being to be provided with said cloth I have to request that you will purchase upon the most reasonable terms 9 Bolts equal to No1 and 3 Bolts equal to No8 of Boston Manufacture. Mr Lincoln charged for the Boston Sail Cloth which he procured for some of the Cutters 11 Dollars per piece for No1 and 9 Dollar [
sic]
for No8 & it is expected that it may be purchased here nearly at the same rate. You will please to forward the article to the Collector of Savannah by the Schooner Friendship, Jacob Art master who will sail on Sunday, transmitting one of the Bills of Lading a receipt to their office. The expence will constitute a charge in your quarterly account." Signed, "

Condition: Laminated with a heat setting acetate. Lightly toned with a few light stains at the edges. Hamilton's signature slightly faded. A few small chips at the left edge.
