[Republic of Texas]. Pay Orders (2) for Military Service. Includes:
Pay Order for John Darrigrand. 6 5/8 x 3 3/8 inches, Houston; June 7, 1837. Made out to "Joan [sic] Darrigrand" for "Ninety five 50/100 Dollars...for the payment of the Military." Signed by John Wyatt Moody as Auditor. Endorsed "Jn Darrigrand" on the verso. During the Texas Revolution, Darrigrand served under Colonel James Clinton Neill in the 1st Regiment of Artillery in the Texas Army.
Pay Order for Otis R. Sovrein. 6 3/8 x 3 1/8 inches, Houston; November 15, 1837. Made out to "Otis R. Sovrein" for "Seventy Six Dollars...for the payment of the Military." Signed by John Wyatt Moody as Auditor, and Elisha Marshall Pease as Comptroller. Endorsed "Otis R Sovrein" on the verso.
Condition: Both orders exhibit some age-toning with smoothed folds and minor edgewear; Darrigrand order toned slightly darker. Darrigrand order cancelled through the center in red ink; docketing and two small pencil annotations on verso; separations at center fold, reinforced with archival tape on verso. Sovrein order cancelled in ink through Pease's signature; scattered soiling throughout; two pencil annotations on verso.
