Douglas DC-8-51 1/10 Scale Cutaway Display Model by Pacific Miniatures (PacMin), 1959. Magnificent large-scale cutaway display model of the McDonnell Douglas DC-8-51 jetliner, hand-crafted in 1959 by Pacific Miniatures (PacMin), the premier aerospace model-making firm of the jet age. Measuring twelve feet long with a thirteen foot wingspan, the model is constructed of a fiberglass fuselage and wings, wood and plexiglass interior sections. Impressive cutaways reveal the forward cockpit, passenger cabin and galley areas with real wood bulkheads, wool carpeting, and molded plastic seating. Originally produced for Douglas Aircraft Company's marketing and sales division to promote the new DC-8 Series 50 jetliners to airlines, this model represents the epitome of Cold War-era craftsmanship in commercial-airliner display art. According to the factory specifications displayed with the model, only three examples of this type are known to exist worldwide. The last time this model was publicly exhibited it was on loan to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Very fine presentation condition with minor expected age wear to finish and interior fittings.
