Abraham Lincoln: 1864 Currier & Ives Campaign Cartoon. 17 1/2" x 13 1/2" pro-Lincoln Currier & Ives cartoon, titled
"Your Plan and Mine," published in 1864. Mounted to a board with cellophane tape (at top center & corners) to an overall size of 19 1/2" x 14 3/4". The cartoon contrasts the Democratic and Republican plans for the prosecution of the war, juxtaposing George B. McClellan's proposed conciliatory approach with Abraham Lincoln's uncompromising stance. McClellan offers an olive branch to Jefferson Davis, permitting the return of Black Union soldiers to slavery, and requesting the South's restoration to the Union. Lincoln is shown demanding unconditional surrender at the point of the bayonet and insisting that those freed under the Emancipation Proclamation remain free.
Condition: Somewhat toned with minor creasing; scattered dampstaining and foxing. Short edge tears, with minor loss and a long tear at the center of the top edge measuring approximately 4 1/4". Evidence of restoration throughout.
