Chester A. Arthur Autograph Letter Signed ("C.A. Arthur"). One page, 8 1/4 x 11 inches; New York City, New York; August 24, 1880.

A campaign-period letter from Chester A. Arthur, written while serving as Chairman of the New York Republican State Committee and as the Republican nominee for Vice President alongside James A. Garfield. Arthur introduces Rev. S. Miller Hageraan, pastor of the Brooklyn Union Tabernacle and endorsed by Henry Ward Beecher, one of the most prominent ministers and Republican-aligned public figures of the period. In full:

"My dear Sir:

I take pleasure in introducing to the favorable consideration of your committee Rev. S. Miller Hageraan Pastor of Brooklyn Union Tabernacle, who is a native of your state.
He comes with strong letters from Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, and other prominent men in the Republican Party, and from other recommendations this committee has received of him. I am satisfied he can be of a very valuable aid in the committee canvass of his native state.

Condition: Very good. Flattened horizontal and vertical fold lines. Toning around the perimeter with light damp staining. Verso shows adhesive and paper remnants from previous mounting. Pencil notation on the reverse.
