An Early Halberd Pipe Tomahawk.

Mid-18th Century. A very rare early French halberd-form pipe tomahawk, displaying classic early construction and well-balanced proportions. The head features a narrow, flared blade with the cutting edge slanting on a subtle bias, a form often associated with early French trade examples. Opposite the blade is a pipe bowl that flares in two distinct stages, paired with a round haft fitted with a steel spike rising above the head and gently flaring outward. The haft retains a steel ferrule inset approximately 2 3/4-inches below the mouthpiece. The tomahawk measures approximately 29 1/2-inches in overall length.

Note: This example was previously sold at Morphy Auctions in April 2019, as Lot 1005, where it was noted as originating from the Don Euing Collection.

Condition: The tomahawk shows honest age and handling consistent with its early period of manufacture. The wooden haft exhibits scattered nicks, small mars, and surface wear, while the metal components display an even, aged patina with some evenly distributed surface rust present.
