Description:
Possibly Unique Andrew Johnson Ivory Stickpin
Andrew Johnson ivory stickpin. This unique political item is an ivory profile of Andrew Johnson, in the half-round, facing left, mounted on a long stickpin. It measures 3/4 x 1" and is in excellent condition, with no markings. It bears striking similarities with the bust on the Johnson medal offered in the previous lot, confirming the attribution. Political jewelry is very rare, though scattered examples are known for 19th-century politicians. Perhaps the ultimate Johnson political.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
